Fuel demand increases quickly as horsepower rises, particularly when switching from gasoline to ethanol-based fuels. E85 requires significantly more fuel volume for a given power level, which means a fuel system that performs adequately on pump gas may reach its limits much sooner after an ethanol conversion. Adding supercharger boost, smaller pulleys, ported blowers, larger displacement, aggressive camshafts, turbochargers, or nitrous can further increase the amount of fuel the engine requires under load.
