Build Highlight: Tom Susner’s 2022 Challenger T/A 392

Volume No. 31

Tom Susner’s 2022 Challenger T/A 392

Some builds are about numbers. Some builds are about noise. And some builds are about legacy. This one is all three.

Tom Susner, from Joliet, Illinois, works full-time as a water treatment operator for the City of Joliet and also owns Susner’s Hauling and Junk Removal LLC. He stays busy, but like a lot of us, cars have always been his passion.

Tom grew up around muscle cars. The smell of race fuel. The sound of a cammed V8. The feeling when the ground shakes at idle.

That’s what hooked him. And that’s exactly what this build delivers.

Built With Intention From Day One

Tom originally found Dusterhoff Racing through social media back in 2019 after purchasing a 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona. The plan at the time? Cam the car.

Life had other plans; the Charger didn’t stay long.

But Tom made himself a promise:

When I get a Challenger, I’m sending it to Dusterhoff Racing to get the works.– Tom

Fast forward to 2022. He purchased his Challenger T/A 392 from Dave Arbogast Buick-GMC in Troy, Ohio, and made it clear from the start that the car wasn’t staying stock. He needed it fast. Not to drive. Not to enjoy for a few months. To ship it to us.

The Challenger arrived at his house… and stayed there for exactly two days.

It still had the temp tag on it when it left for our shop.

Now that’s commitment!

The Heart of the Build

Tom didn’t want “a little quicker.” He wanted a transformation.

We built his 2022 Challenger T/A 392 with our:

DT605 Power Package

Dusterhoff Racing Stage 3 Idle Apocalypse cam kit

Barten shifter

Valvetronic Exhaust

Anderson Composites Carbon Fiber Demon hood

Anderson Composites Carbon Fiber spoiler

Dusterhoff Racing custom tune

The result?

It went from quick to violent in the best way possible.” – Tom

This is what a properly engineered combination does. It’s not just peak horsepower, throttle response, and drivability. It’s how the car behaves at idle and how it pulls through the RPM range.

The deep chop at idle.
The instant throttle response.
The way it commands attention everywhere it goes.

It sounds like pure chaos going down the street, and that’s exactly what I wanted.” – Tom

That’s what a cammed 392 should feel like.

The First Drive

That first drive after the build is complete, when everything you imagined either lives up to expectations… or doesn’t.

For Tom, it exceeded them.

The first drive honestly caught me off guard. The throttle response, the sound, the way it pulled, it felt like a completely different animal. I remember thinking, ‘Okay… this is serious now.’ It put a grin on my face that wouldn’t go away.” – Tom

More than just a Car

This 2022 Challenger T/A 392 isn’t just another build.

To Tom, it’s something he plans to pass down to his sons one day. It’s the build he always wanted to do, done the right way.

That matters. Because when you build something with long-term vision, you don’t cut corners. You choose the right parts, supporting mods, and have it tuned properly.

Build it once, build it right.

From the Owner Himself:

Dusterhoff Racing doesn’t just bolt on parts; they build cars the right way. The power, drivability, and attention to detail speak for themselves. If you want real performance and a team that truly stands behind their work, they’re the ones to trust.-Tom

Tom, we appreciate your trust in us to build your baby, and we hope it brings you, your family, and your friends many years of joy!
